Rooted in the Top End, Winsome Jobling’s art conveys a conviction to one place yet her artworks are about many places and many aspects of life. She has a deep rapport with the landscape and culture with which she lives, while firmly connected through the plants, which are in turn the physical matter of her art. Jobling’s work, like the artist herself, can be poetic and modest. Like little epiphanies her images can be recalled long after seeing them, revealing insights and visions. As the viewer we peer unnoticed into a world in which elements are gradually revealed. Like reading a coded message, hidden stories, histories, associations and cultural references are embedded within the layers of her imagery.
